The Dancing Bear Cafe is a unique dining experience offering fine cuisine. The restaurant formerly a chicken hatchery built in the late 1800's, sits atop a hill in the country between Higginsville and Corder. It is owned and operated by the chef, Katie Crutchfield. Chef Katie moved to the midwest in 1994 from Santa Barbara, California where she was a Trompe L'oeil artist and was known for her artistic skills as a caterer. She turned the old brick hatchery into a restaurant in the fall of 1999. The cafe is open Friday and Saturday evenings for dinner by reservation and for private parties of 12 or more during the week also. The menu at the Dancing Bear changes seasonally. From a warming bowl of Ginger Butternut Squash soup in the fall to a refreshing White Corn Rosemary soup in the summer. Delicious desserts from Blackberry Cobbler to Warm Chocolate Cake with mile high Ganache. " I think one of the things that people love about the Dancing Bear aside from the great food is the comfortable atmosphere. Each table feels like they are hosting their own private dinner party. I love to cook and entertain friends and that is what the restaurant feels like." says Chef and owner Katie Crutchfield.
